Havana Bar & Grill – Arlington, TX

Good food, cozy atmosphere, and awesome service! I heard about this little gem from a friend of mine a long time ago and never got around to trying it until now. I have no idea what took me so long but I’m glad I finally made it out to this place. It’s a hole in the wall Cuban joint tucked away in a shopping center in South Arlington if you don’t know it’s there you will for sure miss it.

The ambiance is nothing fancy just a small mom and pop type place dishing out authentic cuban dishes. I’ve been twice now and both time the service was very prompt and friendly. On Saturdays they have live music so you can go enjoy some Caribbean tunes while you eat. I’m not sure exactly what they play because the one Saturday that I did go the band they usually have wasn’t there.

Everything on the menu sounds delicious but the only items I have tried have been their empanadas, tostones rellenos de ropa vieja, and their Cuban sandwich. I’m going to be a little biased on the empanadas since i’m Dominican but I didn’t really like the seasoning that it had to me it tasted weird but it wasn’t bad. I’m just used to eating it my way I guess.

The tostones rellenos were new to me I have never eaten anything like it they were a really good appetizer and are worth getting if you ever stop by. They are like little plantain boats with ropa vieja in the middle. Ropa vieja is shredded beef stewed in a tomato-based sauce add the plantains and you have a winning combination.

Now for the main course the Cuban sandwich. A grilled sandwich with ham, pernil (roast pork), swiss cheese, mustard, and dill pickles. Deliciousness!!! I can’t say enough about it. They give you a huge sandwich with either plantain chips or fries on the side. The second time I went there I was planning on trying something new but I couldn’t help myself and ordered it again. It is sooooo good you have to try it asap.

They also a nice cocktail menu,  I ordered a watermelon margarita while I waited for my food and it was amazing the drink was perfectly made. Every single drink the bartender made while I sat there looked amazing.

Let me know if you go check it out and what you think about Havana Bar and Grill. What’s your favorite Caribbean restaurant?
