La Barbecue – Austin, TX

If you find yourself in Austin, TX craving some amazing barbecue this is easily one of the best barbecue joints in the state of Texas!

I first ate here the morning after a pub crawl in Austin back in 2012 when it first open and was featured in Texas monthly as one of the top new BBQ restaurants in the state. LeAnn Mueller the granddaughter of Louie Mueller owns La Barbecue. She hired Pitmaster John Lewis (who has since relocated and opened up Lewis Barbecue in Charleston, S.C) of Franklin’s BBQ and together they have made a name for themselves. I also recently learned that the “La” is not Spanish for “The” but the L and A in LeAnn.

This place is in par with Franklins if not better due in part to Pitmaster John Lewis influence. La Barbecue started out as a food truck in a small parking space with picnic tables surrounding it. Since then it has relocated numerous times. It now resides at Quickie Pickie on East Cesar Chavez. According to their website, they are not affiliated with Quickie Pickie or their staff. La barbecue is only renting out the kitchen to provide their service.

Everything here is amazing! There is usually a long wait but it is well worth it. The menu is straightforward the meats consist of brisket, ribs, and sausage with only a few sides. Your typical menu that you can find at any BBQ spot. I usually order some brisket and/or the beef rib, which is ginormous. As with any other BBQ joint it can get pretty pricy but again worth it!! Everything is extremely juicy, tender, and falls apart so easily.

The only downside is that once the food is gone it’s gone so try and get there as early as you can.
