Sangria on the Burg – San Antonio, TX

I first went to this restaurant when it opened. Everything was great on that first visit I knew that day I would return. It took a while to go back but I tried a few months ago and this place was rockin! The people I was with were impatient so we decided to leave. I was informed before we left that we can make reservations so I kept that in my back pocket.

Last weekend my mother came to visit for the Marc Anthony concert and since I have wanted to return to Sangria on the Burg I made reservations for brunch. When we got there, they were cleaning out a table so we waited by the bar. We ordered some pomegranate mimosas while we waited.

Once seated I ordered a flight of sangrias which comes with four samples of sangria (Red, White, Grapefruit, Jameson Ginger). The red sangria is red wine, pineapple, orange, sprite and Soco. The white sangria is white wine, pineapple, orange, sprite and Soco. The grapefruit sangria is rosé, pineapple, grapefruit, Jarritos, Deep Eddy grapefruit. Finally, the Jameson ginger sangria is white wine, ginger syrup, pineapple, orange, ginger ale and Jameson Irish Whiskey. This place gets creative to create some unique flavors and they are delicious.

The girls ordered the Pancake tacos a plate with chorizo, salsa, breakfast sausage, scrambled eggs, and queso folded in a buttermilk pancake tortilla. In addition, a side of pecan – jalapeño syrup, papa hash, and fresh fruits.

I honestly don’t remember the name of my plate but I believe it was something like The Sangria Breakfast which had scrambled eggs, pancakes, peppered bacon, papa hash, and potatoes. Apparently, the brunch menu changes every so often.

So while perusing the menu I found out they have a margarita flight too (I think I know what I am getting next time)! I have only been here twice but everything from the service to the food has been great! I recommend checking them out.

We capped the weekend of at the Japanese Tea Garden, which is very pretty, and worth devoting a couple hours of your day. A quick history fact – The reason the entrance says the Chinese Tea Garden is due to the attacks on Pearl Harbor. Americans had an anti-Japanese sentiment during the period. To prevent the garden from being vandalized the city renamed it the Chinese Tea Garden. In the early 80’s the city decided to change it back to its original name but left the entrance as is as a reminder of the wrongs suffered by the Japanese during WWII.
