The Dogfather Gourmet Hot Dogs – San Antonio, TX

Found this joint in a list of hot new restaurants in San Antonio and had to check it out. It’s a little hole in the wall north of downtown. I love checking out hole in the wall joints but i’m not really into the whole “upscale” “gourmet” scene that is really popular these days.  But I decided to gather a couple of people and check this place out.

They only have about 8 different options that are a mix of a hot dog and some sort of add-on anything from Tex-Mex to Thai to Vegan. Each hot dog runs about $8 to $10 a pop which is a little pricy for a hot dog. The service was great since it was our first time they walked us through the different types of hot dogs.

We decided to go with the Gotti Guisada ($10) and Elote Dog ($8.50)

The Gotti Guisada: The hot dog is topped off with carne guisada, melted cheddar cheese, pico de gallo, and salsa verde. The taste of the carne and hotdog actually worked but the texture of the the toppings on the hot dog didn’t really win my heart. Overall it was a good hot dog.

The Elote Dog: This one had roasted corn, queso, fresco, parmesan, limon salt, crumbled takis, mayo, fresh lime. It was literally having a street corn on top of a hot dog. Doesn’t get better than that! Ok, the side curly fries made it better! Definitely a win here.

We washed these bad boys down with one of my favorite beers “El Chingon”, so that was also a plus!

I would  recommend this place if you like hot dogs and want to try some different options. Keep in mind that it is a bit pricy I would recomend to come in a group so you can try different ones.
